Behavioral biometrics is one of the most impactful advancements in the field of digital identity and cybersecurity, making authentication not just a single point, but an ongoing process that is seamlessly integrated into everyday human activity. Behavioral biometrics, in contrast to physiological biometrics, captures the dynamic behavior of how people type, move, swipe, walk and interact with digital systems. This article aims to give a detailed awareness oriented overview of technology, its scientific basis, the main modalities and technical architecture, in an accessible way. It explores why technology is so quickly being adopted, such as the shortcomings of passwords, the increase in identity theft and the rise of digital life on the go. The benefits and impact on countries, companies and individuals are discussed, as well as the economic drivers of the field. The same attention is paid to the risks, which include privacy erosion, consent challenges, demographic bias, and the historical lack of attention to governance frameworks in line with technological deployment. The article highlights some of the errors that future adopters should avoid and identifies remaining research gaps that need to be filled, given the lessons learned from past regulatory failures.
